There’s nothing more beautiful than a child’s innocent smile, full of joy; and there’s nothing more fulfilling than being the cause for it!Â
Everyone’s hearts go out to the innocent, hopeful young faces when they visit an orphanage, but their impact ends with a donation of food or clothes. It becomes more of a one-time act of pity rather than a genuine gesture of acceptance and inclusion. The children may be deprived of their families, but such superficial acts of kindness deprive them of their dignity too.Â
We at AASA believe that every child deserves to be accepted into the community and society at large, and we want them to believe that their self worth is far higher than what society has been projecting so far onto them. Project Khushi is all about brightening up the lives of underprivileged children in orphanages by giving them a sense of belonging and oneness with the rest of the community.Â
Project Khushi coordinates with various communities and groups and facilitates the participation of children from various orphanages and shelter homes in community events. AASA strives to ensure that every such child has a non-discriminatory experience wherein he or she receives as much love, affection, and acceptance as a child from a secure background.Â
AASA is also making efforts to bring about a sea change in people’s attitudes. Through Project Khushi, AASA informs communities in advance regarding the participation of underprivileged children in the event and sensitizes them to their needs and nature, so that they are able to interact readily with the children without prejudice. They are encouraged to invite the children over as relatives and family members, and this experience is made fulfilling to both by AASA. Bathukamma, being a major community event, is one of the occasions when children are invited over by various communities to be their guests.
Be it the residents of a gated community or the employees of an organization, each one is welcome to contribute as possible, in the form of money, groceries or stationery, to give a better life to those less fortunate children. Participants are encouraged to make an overall contribution of Rs. 75,000 or provide supplies of groceries/daily necessities such as soap, toothpaste, etc., that can last for a year or two.Â
The Bathukamma Celebrations involving the inmates of Maruti Oldage & Orphanage Society alone saw a whopping fund of Rs. 40,000/- collected at the first go, apart from groceries, stationery, and clothes enough to last a year!
Other festivals like Diwali and Christmas are also occasions when Project Khushi works its magic! Celebrities or entertainment artistes are invited to interact with the children in shelter homes and orphanages, giving them a memorable and enjoyable festival time. Whether it’s a performance by the artist or just soulful interaction with the kids, AASA ensures it’s different and exciting for the tots! One such well-loved performance held at Rainbow Home for children was that of Mr. Raghav Sharma, a gifted singer, and guitarist as part of Iftar celebrations.
No matter what the occasion, Project Khushi lives up to its name, bringing happiness in the hearts of all those who need our love and support!
